John has a degree in Architecture (B. Arch, Miami U.) and Architectural Engineering (M.S. Arch. Eng., Penn State U.); retired after a 32 year career with NYS Department of Public Service as Environmental Analyst and Manager; John has served  the Town of Bethlehem in a variety of ways - 4 years as Town of Bethlehem Deputy Supervisor and has been a member of BPAC (Comprehensive Plan Committee), Chair of CACC (Citizens Advisory Committee on Conservation), member of CPAC (Comprehensive Plan Assessment Committee),Conservation Easement Working Group, LWRP (Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan Committee), Parks and Recreation Master Plan Committee, and has been a participant in many other Town Committees and official activities. John co-authored “The History of Five Rivers” as well as served on the Friends of Five Rivers Board for 9 years.

John lives in Delmar with his wife, Ellie Prakken, a local artist and Bethlehem beautification advocate.  John was first appointed to the Planning Board on January 10, 2007 and was reappointed on January 13, 2016; term expires December 31, 2020. John has served as Chairman since 2014.
