Help Wanted - Engineering Technician, reply by 3/4


The Town of Bethlehem Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for an Engineering Technician.  Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Performs computer assisted drafting (CAD) work;
  • Traces, letters or drafts engineering drawings, maps and plans for public works projects;
  • Does layout work and related computations;
  • Serves as a rodperson or chairperson on field survey parties;
  • Inspects portion of contruction or maintenance projects and materials supplied for such projects;
  • Reduces and plots field notes, makes and checks simple engineering computations;
  • Estimates and monitors projects cost;
  • Keeps and maintains project and map files.

Minimum Experience and Training for Engineering Technician: (Either)

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s Degree in civil engineering technology, drafting, construction technology, geographic information systems or a related field; OR
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in field surveying, drafting, geographic information systems, or construction.

Note:  Satisfactory completion of 30 undergraduate credits in Civil Engineering may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience.
