The Town of Bethlehem Highway Department is seeking candidates for the position of Automotive Mechanic. Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Make repairs and rebuilds of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials;
- Make general repairs to trucks, power shovels, tractors, air compressors, bulldozers, cement mixers and other related equipment;
- Repairs or replaces electrical and electronic ignition systems;
- Mounts snow plows, sanders and auxiliary equipment and connects hydraulic systems to vehicles;
- Makes welding repairs to automotive and heavy equipment;
- Repairs or replaces fuel pumps, generators, alternators and starters;
- Make repairs to hydraulic and air brake systems including ABS;
- Understanding of, and able to repair on board diagnostic computer systems for both light and heavy duty vehicles;
- Repairs machinery such as clippers, stumpers, patching rollers, mowers, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience as a skilled automotive repairman.
Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid New York State CDL Class B Driver’s License, or possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License (Class D) and must obtain a CDL Class B within six (6) months of appointment.
Note: Must obtain a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Inspection License for light duty and heavy duty vehicles, (Groups 1 & 2) within six (6) months of appointment.
