Help Wanted - Principal Engineering Technician, REPLY BY 3/1


The Town of Bethlehem Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for a Principal Engineering Technician.  Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Inspects construction activities for conformance with plans, specifications and the Town standards;
  • Supervises inspection services provided by consultants;
  • Supervises and verifies completeness and accuracy of engineering drawings, record drawings, public works plans, right-of-way maps, and other specialized drawings;
  • Reviews documentation associated with the Town’s infrastructure acceptance;
  • Assists with preparing contract bids, drawings and project specifications;
  • Reviews permit applications for work within Town right-of-ways;
  • Makes and checks engineering computations;

Minimum Experience and Training for Engineering Technician: (Either)

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s Degree in civil engineering technology or a related field and 4 years of experience in surveying, drafting, and/or construction; OR
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience in field surveying, drafting, and/or construction.

Town benefits include paid vacation, holidays, sick time, medical and dental insurance, and New York State Retirement.

The current salary range for this position is: $64,162-$78,361.
