The Town is considering a Deer/Lyme Citizens Committee to evaluate issues related to Bethlehem’s deer population, including the relationship to traffic accidents, Lyme disease, and other community concerns (gardening, for example). The group could include members of the community with scientific, medical, wildlife and/or environmental expertise to help sort through the very technical issues involved. The idea would be to assemble and review available information on Deer population Bethlehem, look at impacts including relationship to Lyme disease and traffic accidents, take testimony on these issues, and develop either recommendations or options for consideration if it is concluded that Town actions can address the issues identified. Let us know what you think!

I believe that the town should publish a map on it's website detailing the location and time of day of reported deer/vehicle accidents that have occurred in the past few months. For example, my own personal experience of a deer running into my car on River Road in 2012, has taught me to avoid that area at dusk. I would think that all drivers in Bethlehem could benefit from our collective experience.

Eliminating the very loud & frequent siren noises coming from the rail yard would greatly improve the quality of life & health of the nearby residents of Beckers Corners & South Bethlehem. This noise occurs between 6-12 times in a 24 hr. period & is particularly disruptive during the night at 12:30 am, 2:00 am, & 3:30 am. Support from our town leadership would be helpful in addressing this problem. Citizens also play a crucial role as well. The website TellCSX-CSX & phone # 1-877-835-5279 is available to help address concerns. Let's help keep Bethlehem a great place to live

Sidewalks to Connect children on bicycles and community members walking their dogs are a necessary public safety solution for previously identified speeding and reckless driving on Wemple Drive.
Many children are not only visiting one another's neighborhood but joggers and older bicyclists are trying to Connect to the Rail Trail. A simple sidewalk that would mitigate the high risk on that section of Road, near Beacon.
This would be a great way to finish the successful 2016 pavement project and the communities Rail Trail. Please help before someone gets hurt. I look forward to the opportunity to sit down and discuss these concerns.

The residents of the Selkirk area experience extremely loud train
horn noise daily & nightly. Especially disturbing are the 110 decibel
blasts that occur at 2am,3am,4am,5am at the Route 396 (Mosher Bridge)
overpass. The train goes under the bridge. There is no chance of a collision with public traffic. Town officials could make a meaningful and positive impact here by collaborating with CSX & Federal Railroad
Admin. to make this a Quiet Zone.

Stop the extremely loud siren noises coming from nearby rail yard all night
long. These are now sounding hourly & is different from the typical train
horns usually heard all too frequently.

Last week there was a serious accident on Lasher Road in Selkirk involving
a speeding BMW & ending in a partial roll-over. If anyone had been leaving
that Post Office exit they would have been KILLED! Now, due to pandemic, there are more adults and children riding bikes &/or jogging here. Need MUCH BETTER monitoring and enforcement of the speed limit at critical times.
