Winter Activities

Playing ice hockey at Elm Avenue Park

Ice Skating

The ice skating rink is open daily for general skating when the ice is 4 inches thick with a good surface.

Open daily until 9:30 p.m.

For skating information 24/7, including current conditions and updates, call 518-439-4955, ext.1621.  When the green flag is flying, the skating rink is open.  If the red flag is flying, the skating rink is closed.  The standard used to open for skating is 4+ inches of ice.  Although the ice may be solid enough to walk on with just a couple of inches, it is still not safe enough for the volume of skaters that the pond can have on a typical day.  To accommodate hockey players, a portion of the rink will be set aside for hockey.  There is no charge for skating or playing hockey.

Sledding

Sledding is available on the large hill behind Small Pavilion A at Elm Avenue Park and on the hill at Maple Ridge Park.  The hills may be closed if they are too icy.  Please, no skis or snowboards on the hills.  Open during the daylight hours only.

Other Winter Activities

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are allowed in all the parks.  Snowmobiling is permitted in the field area south of the Park Office building along Route 32 during daylight hours only.
